Merchant Navy:
A Merchant Navy or Merchant marine is the fleet of merchant vessels that are registered in country, which varies in capacity. Seafarers on merchant vessels, who hold various military-like ranks and responsibility and are sometimes member of various maritime trade unions, are required by the International Conviction on Standard of Training, Certification ant Watchkeeping (STCW), to carry Merchant Mariners Documents.
Merchant Navy refers to Merchant commercial fleet or ships of a country that transport cargo & passengers. This fleet usually consist of Passengers vessels, Cargo liners, Tankers (Chemicals, Oil & Gas), Refrigerator ships etc. It’s a glamorous career option as it offer a heady mix of excellent pay, steady growth & constant travelling to exotic locales. One should not confuse Merchant navy with Indian navy. The merchant Navy is a non-combatant commercial fleet, which deals with transporting cargo. While Indian navy having its cost guarding & protection of naval borders of the nation as its function.

Responsibilities of the Deck Department:

Taking the ship from one port to another port i.e. navigation.

Loading and unloading of cargo / Embarking and disembarking of
passengers
Responsibilities of the Engine Department:

Keeping a watch on the running machineries
·
Maintenance of all machineries on board the ship
Responsibilities of the Saloon / Catering Department:

Providing food to all people on board the ship
·
Housekeeping of the accommodation area
